Here it is yall! For your smoking pleasure, our new video “Oil Lamp Hash” produced by Swilliam, directed and shot by Trevor Traynor and edited by Trevor Traynor & Rob Rush. If you got it in your pocket break it out and blaze it up and enjoy the smoke filled fun.
The talented Alli Marshall was nice enough to review our new album for Mountain Xpress and what do you know, she loved it! Here is an excerpt…
“North Carolina is mentioned in nearly every song (second only to liquor), which might come off as homesickness in a band based for the last several years in San Francisco. In fact Fist Fam (at least Gus Cutty and Philo) are in the process of moving back across the country. If you follow Cutty on Twitter, you have some idea of how much of a psychic shift this move is, an emotional roller coaster of excitement and dread. But the album reveals another side: This is a band that has kept at least one foot firmly planted in Carolinian identity (rewarded by a significant mention each year, as best hip-hop act, in Xpress‘s annual Best of WNC readers’ poll). And one foot firmly planted at the bar.”
In other news, this Saturday marks the official return home of the former Ironfist members Philo and Gus Cutty to their hometown Asheville in what will be a very classic lineup at the Asheville Music Hall, formerly Stella Blues. If you’re in the area be sure to come celebrate the triumphant return of the cult with Jameson and tall cans!

The follow up to Fist Fam’s lofi Al Lover produced LP Posted finds the southern boys turned San Francisco residents embracing the cleaner sound of their adopted city’s hiphop scene while delving deeper into their low brow late night dive bar lifestyle. Weekend Cult, a name birthed from the mushroom addled backwood bonfire gatherings the group of friends religiously throw to pay respects to the Pimp named Chad, represents the dichotomy of moonshine sipping country folks thriving in the busy city streets of the Bay Area and signals a new beginning for the group as they drop the Fist Fam name altogether. The group sticks to what they know best on this release, a lifestyle filled with mind altering substances, late nights, and women of questionable morals while never straying too far from their southern roots. The group’s sometimes devious humor is delivered in a deadpan tone throughout the album, most notably on tracks like Stripper Glitter & Cognac and Ratface reminding the listener that rap music is one of the only things the group actually does take seriously. San Francisco underground staples and fellow Gurp City associates Boac, Cutty Bang, and Optik provide the majority of the beats on this release creating a smooth foundation for the North Carolinians grimey style. A clear standout, Oil Lamp Hash produced by Asheville’s Swilliam is a love song to medical marijuana and will soon be accompanied by a video from the respected photographer Trevor Traynor for I Shoot People. While the sound of Weekend Cult may be cleaner than Posted, the group continues the tradition they began last year as purveyors of psychedelic country rap tunes, and lay a solid foundation for a year of releases which will culminate in their next Al Lover produced LP just in time for the coming Apocalypse of 2012.

From ImposeMagazine.com, “For us, 11.11.11. means the release of Al Lover’s Satanic Tambourines beat tape on Impose Records. We’ve been plotting and scheming with Cool Al Lover ever since we cracked a few PBRs in Austin, Texas. It’s only fitting that more tabs get popped and toasted in honor of his tape. Our tape release party also happens to be the night before Thanksgiving. It’s an American tradition to gorge on booze (responsibly) knowing a grand feast will soak it up in your near future. So join us at Milk Bar to toss back Wild Turkey drink specials (all night, kiddos) and slam beer in a can, while jamming out to Al Lover’s tape with support from Burnt Ones, POW, and Fist Fam.
Yeah buddy, so now that you’ve had a chance to get aquainted with ole Panama Jack, downloaded the album, and brushed up on the track by track breakdown of what he’s all about, the time has come for you to meet ole Jack himself. Travelling up the California coast in our new Party Van Fist Fam will be spreading the spirit of Myrtle Beach Spring Break to a town near you, along with our friends Brycon, Grand Invincible, and special guests. If you’re in the city come out to the Elbo Room and fill up on tropical drinks til you wake up with a straw hat fulla vomit and a girl went wild underarm. Everyone else, can’t wait to catch yall on the road! Stay posted for updated venue info.
